THE SKIN YOU LIVE IN

Title

Skin’s skin. If we’re getting technical, men’s, women’s, and most mammals’ skin is 99% the same. But if we look closer, each skin is like a fingerprint, a one-of-a-kind piece… well, you get it: totally unique.
This month is Movember – men’s health and the whole shebang – so it’s the perfect time to talk about why men’s skin is different from women’s, how it affects you, and why our products are made just to tackle these differences.

KEY DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MEN’S AND WOMEN’S SKIN

Based on clinical studies (we’re especially into this one that breaks down over 1,070 scientific papers on skin differences), here are the main proven differences between men’s and women’s skin:
  • HORMONES: More testosterone means more collagen, elastin, and oil.

  • THICKNESS: Men’s skin is 18-25% thicker, depending on which study you’re reading.

  • ABOUT 15-25% MORE HAIR FOLLICLES: Which means more hair and more pores. Some of those pores have thick hairs, like beard hairs, while others are nearly invisible, fine hairs (most of your face).

  • PRETTY MUCH NO CARE ROUTINE: Men’s skin is often more neglected and barely has any routine at all. (It’s not just some rumour; every study backs this up 😉).

Other differences often mentioned are still under debate, like higher natural moisture levels, a slightly lower pH (a bit more acidic than women’s), higher water loss, and a more sensitive skin barrier – but they’re still looking into these.

SO HOW DOES THIS AFFECT YOU? COMMON SKIN ISSUES FOR MEN

So, what does all that mean? Basically:
  • MORE SEBUM PRODUCTION: Sebum’s the greasy stuff that covers your forehead, nose, and cheeks, making you all shiny. The upside? Sebum naturally protects your skin from external damage. The downside? Pimples, blackheads, big pores… and it makes you skip moisturizer (because you’re already bothered by the greasy feeling).
  • MORE SKIN IRRITATION AND A WEAK SKIN BARRIER: Since most of us don’t bother with skincare and keep shaving, we’re more prone to irritations. A lot of guys think they’re dealing with “sensitive skin” when it’s actually years of rough treatment (not the kind of roughness you hear in a Stormzy ballad).

  • WRINKLES, BAGS, AND SPOTS THAT SHOW UP OUT OF NOWHERE: Another result of skipping skincare while the women around you have been all over it for ages.

SO, WHAT DOES A MEN’S SKINCARE ROUTINE LOOK LIKE?

Five steps (same as for women) but with a few tweaks:
  • CLEANSER: To remove dirt, oil, and start clearing up blackheads. Unless you wear makeup, skip the double-cleansing – you don’t need it. Also, if your face feels squeaky clean after washing, you’ve overdone it. Men need a gentler wash, thanks to our habits and all that shaving.

  • MOISTURIZER: To rehydrate your skin and help it recover from shaving and the daily grind. This is one most guys ignore, but we need a moisturizer that’s light enough that you’ll actually want to use it every day.

  • EXFOLIATOR: We generally need a bit more exfoliation than women. With more dead skin, an exfoliator helps keep blackheads at bay and lifts those ingrown hairs from shaving, making your pores look smaller.

  • TREATMENT FOR ANY ANNOYING SKIN ISSUES: Depending on what bothers you – under-eye bags, dark circles, or wrinkles – this is where eye creams and serums come in handy.

  • SUNSCREEN: Every day (you’ll see it’s becoming a thing for everyone). Sunscreen’s unisex, but men are still catching up.

At night, just skip the sunscreen and you’re good to go.

SO, WHY ARE SIWON PRODUCTS DESIGNED FOR MEN?

  • Our CLEANSER is effective but has calming ingredients like Centella Asiatica and Aloe Vera for skin that goes red the second you touch it or shave.

  • Our MOISTURIZER is a water-cream, meaning it turns into a light, water-like texture on your skin so you don’t feel greasy. It also controls shine for up to 8 hours.

  • Our EXFOLIATOR combines coffee particles to clear away dead skin and salicylic acid, a star ingredient for blackheads and clogged pores, for visibly smaller pores.

  • Our EYE CREAM tackles the big three for men: bags, dark circles, and early fine lines.

  • Our NIGHT SERUM WITH RETINOL tackles wrinkles while you sleep.

Add in light textures, lush scents, and colours as bold as a rainbow, and you’ll see why we say our skincare is made for men who like to enjoy life… with a bit of punch.

P.S.: This week’s blog is powered by our starter skincare routine for men – with a gentle foaming cleanser, a moisturizer to keep you shine-free, and a coffee-scented exfoliator to tackle oil, spots, and shrink those pores.
