Looksmaxxing is a trend that has been making waves on social media for quite some time – even though “quite some time” and “social media” in the same sentence feels like an oxymoron, like burning ice or objective opinions. Starting from the surface with tips and tricks to enhance your aesthetic appeal, it places emphasis on making us feel better about ourselves. It’s not about changing who you are but polishing the diamond you already are and might be hiding. 

WHAT IS LOOKSMAXXING?

It's about playing to your strengths; working with what you have to get what you want and covering 'all' areas: physical, mental and emotional. It's the evolution of 'getting fit'.

  • The 'positive' part is that it is a priori about micro-changes, affordable and accessible to EVERYONE, which, in a cumulative and constant way, have an impact on your image and confidence.
  • The 'negative' part is that, like everything, it tends to get a little corrupted: personal development gurus selling courses, Llados de la vida, incel forums and the manosphere promoting body dysmorphia, magazines saying you should aspire to have Henry Cavill's body...

But as I said, in its origins it has nothing to do with competing or comparing, but rather with improving micro-habits to take care of oneself. Each one from its starting point and, the key, is that you choose yours. Here are a few possible beginnings that, once established, are sure to go 'viral' from one area to another in your life. Just choose the one that you like the most/is the least difficult for you:

POSSIBLE AREAS WHERE TO START YOUR LOOKMAXXING

  • Skin care: Obviously, being Siwon, this part was not going to be missing in this blog entry. A good daily routine of cleansing, exfoliation, moisturizing and sunscreen; as this, makes you look fresher, more awake, energetic and attractive. If the face is the mirror of the soul, a good round of creams a day can, in less than 30 seconds a day, give your mood a scooby-cookie boost.
  • Grooming and grooming: This includes going to a professional barber at least once in your life to get advice on the type of haircut and beard that best suits your head shape. From there you can repeat or do maintenance on your own, but knowing why you ask for something more than 'razor on the sides and scissors on top'. This chapter also includes dental hygiene, nails and Body odor care from top to bottom.
  • Sport/fitness: It's not just about gaining muscle, but about finding the type of activity that makes you feel and look good. Fit, with endurance, health and energy.   • Sleep and recovery: Sleep quality is a topic that is rapidly gaining ground, and along with it we include all the hygiene necessary for your body and mind to recharge their batteries 'in a nutritious way'. Spoiler: scrolling to infinity, despite the instant dopamine boost, is not one of them.
  • Personal growth and self-connection: This is about spending quality time and being present with yourself. Reserved and protected like Doñana. Through meditation, journaling, developing a hobby, reading, talking to yourself...

THE FINAL GOAL OF LOOKSMAXXING

All these stories about looksmaxxing (and others that we have left out for the sake of not being eternal) are the means to enhance your attractiveness. But well-understood looksmaxxing leads to another goal: increasing your self-esteem, confidence and the degree of happiness in the skin you live in.

Yes, self-esteem is supposed to be something you can have from the start and work on independently of all the above. You can 'read books to cultivate it', sign up for courses, work on it with a therapist... or you can achieve it through Looksmaxxing.


Because you start with something easy, for example, washing your face every day… and you see results. And then you encourage yourself to eat something better, then to walk daily… and in the end you end up accumulating beneficial habits and gains that improve your image, health, well-being and, unconsciously and gradually… your confidence.
